There's so much to celebrate from the Comprehensive Plan amendment votes on September 17th and 18th.
On Wednesday, City Council passed many of our major priorities through Chair Hollingsworth's consent package: increasing bonuses for stacked flats and affordable housing, including social housing in bonuses, and allowing corner stores in residential areas, and more. These changes will open the door to more accessible, affordable, and mixed-income homes in every neighborhood.
On Thursday, Council expanded many neighborhood centers in District 6, adopting Councilmember Strauss's amendments. They also advanced a smart approach to our tree canopy, incentivizing tree retention with density bonuses through Amendment 91. Council also rejected a number of amendments that would have created new barriers to housing.
Finally, while Council did not opt to designate additional Neighborhood Centers, out of concerns they would exceed the limits of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), they placed these proposals on a docket resolution. This directs the city to conduct additional environmental analysis and community outreach over the next year, keeping the proposals alive for next year's minor update.
We’re deeply grateful to City Council for their leadership and commitment to expanding housing opportunities and removing barriers to production. It is likely that they will receive plenty of pushback as a result of these decisions, so they need your support more than ever.
