Washington State continues to face an affordable housing crisis. Existing resources remain insufficient to meet the growing need of our state and our most vulnerable neighbors are disproportionately impacted. We must rise to the challenge to build and preserve affordable housing for all Washingtonians.
The Affordable Homes Act would create a dedicated baseline of funding for the Housing Trust Fund and other affordable housing priorities—a major step towards meeting the housing needs of all our neighbors. The Act would pay for this funding through progressive changes to the Real Estate Transfer Tax. Under the Affordable Homes Act, taxpayers selling property for under $3.025 million will see a tax cut. Unfortunately, the Affordable Homes Act did not make to the floor of the State House for a vote.
It is vital that we meet our state's housing crisis head on. The Affordable Homes Act would make major progress towards meeting the housing needs of everyone in our community. Ask lawmakers to support housing affordability in Washington and reintroduce the Affordable Homes Act this upcoming legislative session!
