Washington can’t solve its housing crisis without serious investment. Right now, lawmakers are negotiating the final state budget—and the stakes are high.
Lawmakers are finalizing the state budget, and they’ve already shown strong support for affordable housing with significant funding for the Housing Trust Fund. The House has proposed $598 million, while the Senate has proposed $600 million for the Housing Trust Fund. These investments are essential for building affordable homes across Washington.
But without infrastructure, those homes can’t be built. The House also proposed $100 million for the Connecting Housing to Infrastructure Program (CHIP)—a vital tool that helps unlock affordable housing projects by funding the water, sewer, and other infrastructure they need. This will help projects like the Fort Lawton redevelopment in Seattle move forward. However, the Senate proposed just $65 million for CHIP.
Please use your voice to thank your representatives for their critical work on supporting affordable housing and to ask your senator to match the proposal in the House. We must take bold steps to address our state's housing crisis!
